What's the solution? Should we put our faith in prescription drugs? Or is old-fashioned diet and exercise the answer?

It seems as if we are now losing the war against diabetes. Currently, it's the third leading cause of death in the USA, affecting approximately 18,200,000 U.S.citizens.

A person with diabetes has a problem with insulin. Either the body doesn't produce enough insulin (Type 1) or the body produces plenty of insulin but is unable to use it properly (Type 2). Type 1 diabetes usually manifests itself before the age of 30, while Type 2 diabetes usually manifests itself after the age of 30. Ninety percent of diabetes cases are Type 2, while only ten percent are Type 1.

Insulin is important because it helps the body absorb sugar. If the body cannot absorb sugar, it accumulates in the bloodstream, allowing sugar levels to become dangerously high. Prescription drugs may help alleviate some of the symptoms of diabetes. However, there can be notable side effects, such as allergic reactions, injection site reaction, lipodystrophy, pruritus, rash, hypoglycemia, nausea, vomiting , upper respiratory tract infection, injury, headache, back pain, fatigue, sinusitis, diarrhea, viral infection, arthralgia, and anemia, just to name a few.

On the other hand, with proper diet and exercise, diabetes can usually be prevented or reversed. And there are no known adverse side-effects. Bottom line, prescription drugs may help to control diabetes, but drugs only delay its devastating affects! Complications from diabetes can lead to blindness, kidney failure, heart disease, nerve damage, limb amputations and even death.

The Importance of Exercise

For Type 2 diabetics, proper exercise helps your body respond to insulin while managing your blood-sugar levels. Exercise also improves your circulation, especially in areas where diabetics have problems, such as your legs and arms.

The Importance of a Proper Diet

The importance of eating a well-balanced diet cannot be stressed enough. The following foods have been proven to help with Type 2 diabetes:

Whole grains, fresh fruit and vegetables, legumes, raw flax seeds or oil, fish, broccoli, onions, garlic, nuts, mushrooms, and soybeans.

Essential Nutrients

The following nutrients have been proven to help with Type 2 Diabetes:

Omega 3 and 6 essential fatty acids, Chromium, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, Biotin, Magnesium, Vanadium, Zinc, Cyclo (His-Pro), Gymnema, Bitter Melon, and Lipase Enzymes.

The Importance of Supplementing Your Diet

Research indicates that Type 2 diabetes could almost be eradicated if everyone ate a perfect diet and got the proper amount of exercise. However, getting all the nutrients you need from your diet alone is no easy task, which is why everyone should seriously consider supplementing their diet with vitamins. But not just any old vitamin will do.

Five Things to Look For When Choosing a Great Vitamin

There are 5 things to look for when choosing a great vitamin:

1. Choose a multi-vitamin made from the highest grade of Whole-Food sources. Do NOT choose a multi-vitamin that contains a concoction of synthetic ingredients that you can't even pronounce.

2. Choose minerals that are chelated.

3. Choose a multi-vitamin containing Probiotics.

4. Choose a multi-vitamin containing Enzymes derived from vegetables.

5. Choose a multi-vitamin containing 100% of the Recommended Daily Allowances whenever established.

Keeping the above criteria in mind dramatically narrows the playing field. It's also a good idea to select a product that gives you a money-back guarantee. Quality multi-vitamins are not as cheap as synthetics, but they are affordable.

I hope this information has educated you and will help you make smart choices.Remember - you only get one body in this life. Treat it well and stay healthy!

[DISCLAIMER: The opinions expressed herein are my own, although they have been compiled over the years from my research through books and articles. It is usually accompanied by the inability of the pancreas to produce insulin. Meanwhile, new scientific discoveries are promising us The Fountain of Youth. How can this war against aging finally be won?

Americans spend millions on creams, pills, potions, and even plastic surgery in a frantic attempt to stay forever young. Needless to say, looking like a wrinkly old prune simply isn't in vogue. I'm sure there are many fine anti-aging creams on the market.

And I've got no bone to pick with plastic surgery. But as a distributor of Vitamins, my area of expertise is nutrition. And believe it or not, there are Vitamins on the market today that will not only slow down your body's aging process, but actually reverse it! Let's face it, life is short. And if we're ever going to win this war against aging, we better understand our enemy and develop a strategic battle plan.

Understanding Free Radicals

Our number one enemy in the War Against Aging is the Evil Empire known as "FreeRadicals." The Empire is striking, and strike back we need to do. According to a great book entitled "Curing Illness," free radicals are highly reactive unstable oxygen molecules that are missing an electron (page 508).They're everywhere and they attack us constantly. These merciless Darth Vaders are the illegitimate offspring of environmental toxins, electronic devices, sunshine, chemicals, and pesticides. They attack us violently every time we drink, eat, or simply breathe. This continual onslaught is endless. And if that's not bad enough, additional Free Radicals are created inside our body by things as simple as stress.

What Free Radicals Do

The healthy cells of your body are constantly being attacked by Free Radicals. Some experts conclude that the average person is attacked 10,000 times a day by Free Radicals. Why? All because they are looking for their missing electrons. Dang. Talk about holding a grudge! Why Do We Age? As our cells are constantly being bombarded by these Free Rascals - uh, I mean Free Radicals - our cells become weaker and weaker. This weakening process is known in scientific terms as "oxidation." Eventually, disease sets in, which leads to aging and ultimately death. As we continue to pollute our environment, this problem just keeps getting worse.

Antioxidants To The Rescue

So what can be done? One word: Antioxidants! Antioxidants are nutrients that fight mightily like soldiers on steroids against Free Radical Scum Buckets to defeat them and defuse them. But wait, there's more! They also act scrupulously like surgeons to repair damaged cells, thereby stopping and even reversing the aging process. This battle between Free Radicals and Antioxidants is going on constantly. The problem is, we're increasingly being attacked by more and more Free Radicals. So now we need to increase our daily intake of Antioxidants just to break even.

Remember: Antioxidants are our friends, Free Radicals are our enemies. So if you don't wish to become a wrinkly old prune, it might be wise to make Antioxidants your pals. After all, in the war against aging, we need as many pals as we can get.

Antioxidants are A.C.E.S. Against Aging

The best way to remember what antioxidants are is with the acronym A.C.E.S. , which stands for Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and the Mineral Selenium. If everyone received 100% of the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) of these essential Antioxidants, many experts believe we could win the war against aging. Not overnight, but eventually.

Beware of Synthetic Vitamins

Beware, however, of synthetic vitamins. For example, synthetic Vitamin E actually makes the problem of aging worsen. Make certain your Vitamin Supplement is derived from All-Natural Whole-Food Sources.

The Benefits of Grape Seed, Grape Seed Extract, and Pine Bark Extract

In addition to Vitamins A. C. E. and Selenium, there are three other powerful antioxidants that can give your body an extra edge against Free Radicals:

1. Grape Seed

2. Grape Seed Extract

3. Pine Bark Extract

Ideally, taking a daily Vitamin that contains all these Antioxidants in just the right amounts would win the war against aging and defeat those pesky Free Radicals forever. Now wouldn't that be the greatest thing since sliced bread? In fact, it would be like discovering The Eternal Fountain of Youth - brim full and running over!

What Next?

"But then," you inquire, "where in the world could someone find such a Great Vitamin?"

For more information on Antioxidants, Free Radicals, and All-Natural Whole-Food Vitamins, be sure to visit our wonderful resource site at:

http://www.TomsVitamins.com

Antioxidants, free radicals, aging, Vitamins, Minerals, nutritional supplements, vitamins and minerals, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Selenium, anti-aging,aging, grape seed, grape seed extract, pine bark extract, the greatest vitaminin the world, whole food vitamins, natural vitamins, stop aging, look younger

Tom a.k.a. Enzyme deficiency is a serious problem facing America today. Here's what needs to be done.

Before you take that next bite of food, I have an important question to ask...

"Are you getting enough enzymes?"

Tough question, I know. So let me help you out. Do you ever feel tired and sluggish after eating a big meal? Ever have a stomach ache? Indigestion? Constipation? If so, then you're probably not getting a sufficient amount of enzymes. But an enzyme deficiency is much more serious than just an upset tummy. Here, in alphabetical order, is a partial listing of illnesses and disorders attributed to a lack of enzymes in one's diet:

Aching Feet, Acne, Allergies, Arthritis, Back Weakness, Bladder Problems, Chronic Allergies, Chronic Fatigue, Cold hands and feet, Common colds, Constipation, Cystitis, Depression, Diabetes, Diarrhea, Diverticulitis, Fatigue, Fungal forms, Gall Bladder Stress, Gallstones, Gingivitis, Gum Disorder, Hay Fever, Hearing Problems, Heart Problems, High Blood Pressure, Hot Flashes, Hypoglycemia, Immune Depressed Conditions, Inflammation, Insomnia, Irritable Bowel, Lipase Deficiency, Mood Swings, Neck and Shoulder aches, Parasites, PMS, Prostate Problems, Psoriasis, Sinus Infection, Skin rashes, and Urinary Weakness.

What Are Enzymes?

If you're like most people, you haven't a clue what enzymes are. Enzymes are highly complex protein molecules. They work together with oxygen to help us digest food. This is important because unless food is digested properly, it is not usable by the body. Enzymes and oxygen are detroyed whenever food is cooked or highly processed. Eating cooked and/or processed foods puts a tremendous burden on your body. Instead of the necessary digestive enzymes coming directly from your food (as nature intended), your body must now call upon its stored reserves to properly digest that food. These reserves are limited. Once the body's digestive enzymes become depleted, your body has no choice but to draw upon its reserve supply of metabolic enzymes.

So what's the big deal?

The big deal is, if these metabolic enzymes have to be used to digest your food, a series of unfortunate events are set in motion in your body's metabolism. First, these metabolic enzymes are now taken away from other important activities. Consequently, numerous bodily functions are disrupted. Your immune system weakens, making you more suseptable to disease. Your energy level drops. In fact, the functioning of every organ system in the body, including the brain, begins to stress out - all because enzymes have been diverted to digest food. Bottom line, eating foods that are depleted of enzymes over-taxes you, which can ultimately lead to numerous diseases and immunity disfunctions. A diet consisting largely of processed and/or cooked foodstuffs contributes heavily to sickness and disease, not to mention premature aging and an early death!

The Benefit of Raw Food

So what's the answer? I'm not suggesting going cold-turkey by never eating cooked foods, nor am I saying to never dine at restaurants. What I am saying is this: If the majority of your diet consists of cooked and/or processed foods and you're not supplementing your diet with enzymes, you're probably a heart attack waiting to happen. Here's the solution: Replace most of your cooked and processed foods with raw foods. The benefits of natural raw foods have been well documented. Raw foods are alive with life-enhancing phytochemicals and essential enzymes. And to be on the safe side, please consider The Greatest Vitamin in the World, available at http://www.TomsVitamins.com . Many Americans tend to fall below the RDA for magnesium intake by 70-80mg. Many experts feel the RDA for magnesium needs to be significantly increased from the current level of 350mg to as much as 700mg per day.
1 Elamin A, et al. Magnesium and insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. Diabetes Res Clin Pract. 1990;10(3):203-9.

Chromium
The influence of chromium on helping maintain healthy blood sugar was first recognized in animal studies in the 1950s. In the 1970s, chromium's importance was discovered. Various studies support that chromium has a positive effect on helping maintain healthy blood glucose levels (3).
Several groups are at risk for reduced chromium levels. First of all, most Americans are at risk because of a diet rich in refined sugars. Individuals who eat diets high in refined sugars tend to excrete 300 percent more chromium in their urine than those whose diets are low in refined sugars. People who exercise regularly excrete two to six times the normal amount of chromium in their urine on days of exercise (5). Many athletes compound this problem with high-carbohydrate supplements. The elderly also tend to be at risk due to reduced absorption and inadequate intake of chromium. It is interesting to note that women tend to have a drop in chromium levels during the third trimester of pregnancy (6).

There is a great deal of controversy over what is the best chromium to use. Chromium is biologically active only in the trivalent state in which it forms complexes with organic compounds. The most important of these complexes is glucose tolerance factor (GTF), which is comprised of trivalent chromium, niacin, glycine, glutamic acid, and cysteine. Organically bound GTF chromium is thought to be safe and well tolerated.

Chromium picolinate is another popular form of chromium that has helped maintain healthy blood sugar regulation (7). The majority of evidence points to the safety of the picolinate form.
With lifestyle and dietary changes, there may not be a need for an aggressive chromium dosage.

3 Studies presented at the Annual Scientific Sessions of the American Diabetes Association. The Indian name is Gurmar, which means, "sugar destroyer." Its use has been documented in Ayurvedic medical texts for over 2,000 years in the treatment of "sweet urine." Gymnema is gaining popularity with clinicians utilizing natural therapy protocols for helping maintaining healthy blood glucose levels.
Gymnema reportedly produced blood glucose homeostasis and increased the activity of the enzymes involved in the utilization of glucose pathways (40).

Gymnema has also been reported to selectively suppress the neural responses to sweet taste stimuli (44),(45),(46). Because gymnema leaf powder has an anesthetizing effect on the taste buds which can last for several hours, some researchers feel that gymnema may be a potential agent in helping maintain healthy body weight and sweet cravings (47). Gymnema may potentially be used in athletes to develop a higher ratio of lean muscle mass to body fat. Another study found that gymnema was effective in supporting a healthy body weight (49).

40 Shanmugasundaram KR, et al. Supplementation with essential fatty acids such as EPO has been reported to help maintain healthy zinc levels (32). Fatty acids are an important part of normal homeostasis. The human body can produce all but two fatty acids - omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Both must be obtained through the diet or by the use of supplements. Obtaining a balance of these two fatty acids is essential. Essential fatty acids are needed for helping maintain healthy cell membranes. Modern diets tend to be lacking in quality sources of fatty acids.

30 Chapkin RS, et al. When you have healthy blood sugar levels, your body should be producing and properly using insulin.

Chromium is an essential trace element that is required for the body to have normal insulin function.1 When the body has a chromium deficiency it can produce symptoms such as impaired glucose metabolism, high blood sugar levels, lower HDL levels, as well as many other problems. If your diet is high in refined sugars and refined grains like white bread, you actual intensify the chromium depletion in the body. Check out the above graph from the study (top right).2

Gymnema sylvestre studies show an amazing effect on human blood sugar levels.3 Researchers believe that Gymnema sylvestre may play a key role in helping the body repair the pancreas's beta cells, which plays a vital role in the production of and secretion of insulin into the body. Reversing beta cell damage is something that no other herb has been found to accomplish. And the great thing about this herb is that it doesn't seem to have any effect on those who have a perfectly normal pancreas function. Gymnema sylvestre is also known to help the body in blood body fat and cholesterol levels!4

According to Random House Webster's Unabridged Dictionary:
di·a·be·tes, n. Also called diab'tes me'li·tus. a disorder of carbohydrate metabolism, usually occurring in genetically predisposed individuals, characterized by inadequate production or utilization of insulin and resulting in excessive amounts of glucose in the blood and urine, excessive thirst, weight loss, and in some cases progressive destruction of small blood vessels leading to such complications as infections and gangrene of the limbs or blindness.

3. Also called Type I diabetes, insulin-dependent diabetes, juvenile diabetes. a severe form of diabetes mellitus in which insulin production by the beta cells of the pancreas is impaired, usually resulting in dependence on externally administered insulin, the onset of the disease typically occurring before the age of 25.

4. Also called Type II diabetes, non-insulin-dependent diabetes, adult-onset diabetes, maturity-onset diabetes. a mild, sometimes asymptomatic form of diabetes mellitus characterized by diminished tissue sensitivity to insulin and sometimes by impaired beta cell function, exacerbated by obesity and often treatable by diet and exercise.

5. Also called diab'tes in·si'i·dus. increased urine production caused by inadequate secretion of vasopressin by the pituary gland.

Improve your diet, exercise and nutritionally support the body by eating healthy foods and as many raw foods as possible. Also consider a Whole-Food All-Natural Multi-Vitamin as a nutritional supplement. We recommend The Greatest Vitamin in the World, which has 170 mcg of Chromium (100% of theRecommended Daily Allowance) and 90 mg of Gymnema sylvestre in a daily serving. The Greatest Vitamin in the World is available through TomsVitamins.com or by calling 1-800-605-8482 (Use Customer ID# 256352).

1.
